Summertime and Canada 150

July 8, 2017

It’s July and we’re finally enjoying warm summer weather and sunshine after one of the wettest Springs in our history. Flooding has been rampant, and the Toronto Islands are closed to the public, but patios are open, parks are filled with families, and cyclists abound.

This month also saw Canada celebrate its 150 birthday on July 1 and there were certainly a lot of joyous events to bring Canadians together. From a three-day event in Ottawa, to local events at Harbourfront and City Hall.

Here at The Russell Hill, we are celebrating all month culminating with ‘A Taste of Canada, Celebrating 150 years of Canadian Cuisine’ on July 28.

Here’s how we are celebrating through the month:

July 1, Canada Day Party with live dance music

July 3, Canadian Trivia

July 6, An outing to Hot Docs Cinema: In the Name of All Canadians

July 12, Billy Bishop Goes to War (A Soulpepper Production)

July 13, You Be the Judge: Canadian Edition

July 16, Canadian Folk Art: Painting Class

July 19, An outing to see Vimy (another Soulpepper Production)

July 22, Rebel Afternoon at Gibson House

July 25, Anishinaabeg: Art & Power (at the ROM)

July 26, A lecture, Toronto 1867

A busy month to honour a special moment in history!
